Intimate Journals (Syrens Series)
Published in Paperback by Penguin USA (Paper) (March, 1996)
Average review score:

A crystalline fragment of aesthetic sensibility. This is the document of a poet consecrating himself to memory. His attempt to maintain perspective; his aesthetic self objectification that is repeatedly shattered when he looks into society; his Catholocism, his ennui, his mistress, his mother...all these cast a definitely "intimate" hue to the pages that are essential for any reader wishing to come to terms with Baudelaire's psyche: to see why his self-destruction was inseparable from his creations. For they were both necessary symptoms of his sensibility - an immaculately modern sensibility. The fragmented nature of the writings prevents the work from actually being a "work" - it is more like an authentic gesture, an unpremeditated act of self revelation. A fascinating and ultimately harrowing document from a poet - nothing more.

Introduction to Design and Analysis: A Student's Handbook (A Series of Books in Psychology)
Published in Paperback by W H Freeman & Co. (February, 1993)
Average review score:

Extremely UsefulI had to buy this book as a Psychology undergrad for a Stats course. Ten years and two degrees later, I'm still using it as my standard reference.

An Introduction to Metallurgy
Published in Paperback by Crane Russak & Co (August, 1975)
Average review score:

An Excellent Survey of Metallurgy and Metallurgical ConceptsIf I could only have one metallurgy book, this would be it. All major topics in metallurgy are covered at an undergraduate survey level. Cottrell's writing style is excellent, and he concentrates on giving the reader insight into the many technical aspects involved in metallurgy. He doesn't just throw a bunch of equations at you without giving you insight into each one. This book concentrates more on concepts and understanding than on industrial details and metallurgical recipes. Readers will need a basic understanding of calculus, physics and chemistry (at a first year college/university level).

From its startling portrayal of serious research to its gripping narration of industrial applications - this book has it all. "An Introduction to Rheology" - folks, this IS the TOTAL package. Buy it, read it, love it.

Introduction to the New Testament
Published in Paperback by Abingdon Press (01 January, 1996)
Average review score:

Outstanding Reference - (Not a quick read)This book is unmatched for its wealth of information in a concise format. It is not a "popular" narrative, but a reference work that provides an excellent summary of the best research on the New Testament. It examines each book from the perspectives of content, literary character, theology, date written, and author. Kuemmel (following his predecessors, Feine and Behm) briefly notes the significant conclusions drawn by previous scholars, drawing together a synthesis of their thought (or indicating who has had the better argument when they cannot be reconciled). The briefly stated conclusions are generally clear, and the citations allow the reader to pursue any further research.

An Introduction to the Old Testament Historical Books
Published in Hardcover by Moody Publishers (November, 1993)
Average review score:

The best book ever on the Historical Books!David Howard has compiled a great review of the Old Testament Historical books, probably the best work ever on this subject! Howard is lucid, scholarly, and exegetical; this book is a necessity for any student of the Old Testament! He does a great job on outlining, interpreting, and applying these books; he also has a great introductory chapter about the nature of narrative material. No one is left in the dark about the various aspects of the Historical books after reading this! He also includes plenty of detail and indices for the reader. This book is truly great!

Investigating Mathematics: The Touchstones Approach
Published in Paperback by Touchstones Discussion Project (January, 1994)
Average review score:

Great Philosophy and math connections...excellent resource for 7-12th grade. Units are designed to meet new MST standards by encouraging students to read and discuss mathematical topics and ideas. As a mathematics teacher with a BS/MA in math, and a strong philosophy background I loved it. If you are looking for a way to connect math to life this is it. Great book.

Is There Any Hope for Advertising
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Illinois Pr (Pro Ref) (March, 1987)
Average review score:

Great BookThis book is inspiring and gives you the real deal about making great ads that bust through the clutter. In the sixties, Gossage was a visionary who didn't follow trends. Like Bernbach and Chiat, he started them. Rare then and today. Although advertising is a creative business, too often ad people follow trends to succeed. Right now the trend of the month is humor and everyone's trying to out joke everyone else. I love humor. But there's a time and a place for it. You don't use it for every situation. Great campaigns show us something new. The way to stand out is to do something different. As you'll find by reading this compelling book, Gossge was a master of different.

Ischemic Heart Disease: Surgical Management
Published in Hardcover by Mosby (15 January, 1999)
Average review score:

THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER BOUGHT !I am an Assisstant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Cairo University. My sub-speciality is surgery for ischemic heart disease. I have drowned in the medical literature for the last ten years and it notable to mention that ischemic heart management has been increasingly dynamic in the last few years and such a textbook was always lacking.
This book is a piece of art . The subjects are covered by Masters , comprehensively written and beautifully illustrated . I think it is a jewel that must be owned by anyone interested in the subject wether surgeon or cardiologist .
My only concern is that it would become outdated and I plea to the editors to continuously launch updated editions ( every three years for example ).

When used as a self-study text ...When used as a self-study text, I found the book to be lacking a sufficient quantity of example problems solved in adequate detail to be truly helpful.
Outstanding! This book is quite informative and interesting to read. If you love any math at all, you should definitally read it.
